The Women's Guild is another of Immanuel's active women's groups.  The Women's Guild was founded in 1924 and has continued to support the church and the wider community during the years.  These women are especially active in efforts to care for the church facility and in outreach programs.  The group meets in the Parish Hall once a month on the second Thursday at 2:00 p.m.  They meet in June and December at noon to share and celebrate together and enjoy a light afternoon meal.

“Be cheerful, no matter; what pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live.” (1 Thessalonians 5: 16-18. “The Message” version)

During our devotional in November, Cheryl Jett led us through the history of the first Thanksgiving, and how we have continued to celebrate that event in the past years. Indeed, we do have a lot to be thankful for: our freedom; free to choose our religion; and the richest country in the world as we give thanks this month. But imagine what a wonderful world it would be if we gave thanks, not just during the month of November or the 4th day of that month, but every day of the year. Let’s all adopt an “attitude of gratitude” during 2020 and not wait for Thanksgiving Day thank God for all of our blessings.

Prayers were raised for May Jean Socha on the passing of her sister, Irene Mueller and for the family of Doris Hageman who also passed away in November. They will be missed. Prayers were also lifted up for Pastor Ron Krueger and Paula Haley as they face health issues.

The Annual Craft Sale was a huge success! The weather was beautiful; the crowds were plentiful; and therefore, each of our projects made money! The production of “It Happened in Spring” was very well received by all who attended the two performances. Margaret Smith always does a bang-up job of orchestrating this program. Proceeds of the various sales will benefit committees of the church. The CEC, youth program, Women’s Guild and Mary-Go-Round all participated with their various areas of participation.

The new transporter wheelchair has been purchased and is available for use in case of an emergency. The two old wheelchairs will be donated to Goodwill Industries.

Plans are going forward to welcome new members to join Immanuel. There was an informational lunch for prospective members in November and tentative plans for a New Member Sunday in February are being made. Information on this will be forthcoming. Anyone who is interested in becoming a member at Immanuel should call the church or talk to Rev. Lawrence.

Officers of the Women’s Guild will remain in office in 2020. Thanks to Valerie, Judy, Diana and May Jean for continuing to serve.

Plans are in the works for a luncheon to be held in honor of Jacqueline Pitts as she prepares to enter the US Navy in January. Jacqueline is a treasured member of our congregation and we want to wish her well on this next step in her journey.

December is our Christmas meeting. There will be a pot-luck luncheon at noon on December 12th. Liz Lemm will organize the meal. Rev. Lawrence will give the devotional. Don’t forget that instead of a gift exchange, please bring an UNWRAPPED toy to the meeting. These toys will be distributed to “Toys for Tots” to be given to children who otherwise might have a very bleak Christmas.

The purpose of the Women’s Guild is to unite the women of Immanuel United Church in Christian fellowship. The Guild aims to deepen spiritual life in its members, to stimulate sacrificial giving and to spread Christ’s word in all facets of life.  All women are invited to join us at the next meeting on December 12th at 12:00 p.m. with a pot-luck luncheon. Come join us as we continue our journey of serving our Lord in our church and community. Hope to see you there. And be sure to bring a friend!

Have a blessed month. And may I be the first to wish you a “Merry Christmas!”
