So we are ambassadors for Christ, since
God is making his appeal through us.
2 Corinthians 5:20 (NRSV)
Hello, Immanuel Church. It’s been a tough week for those of us who care about our country. There have been riots and killings and all that goes with those events. Yet, God is with us. God does not let us “walk” alone through tough times. Please keep that in mind.
I am writing to say “good bye” to you as you will receive this newsletter after I have left Immanuel Church, United Church of Christ. I have enjoyed serving with you for three months as your Interim Sabbatical Minister while Rev. Krueger has been on his sabbatical. I will miss you. Please forgive me as I will forgive you and know that I love you, each and every one of you. You hold a special place in my heart.
During the three months that I have been blessed to serve with you, I have been very impressed with how willing and ably you work for and in the church. You serve lunch to any “seniors” who choose to come to your monthly gathering, you generously sponsor your young people to attend summer camp at Slumber Falls Camp, you generously support your chosen missions each month, and you open your doors to meetings of groups that need a safe space in which to meet. Your individual and group actions serving as Christ in the community are very impressive. And I feel privileged to have been a part of this committed group of Christians.
Now I have a challenge for you. As I serve as Registrar of the Houston Association, I keep records for all the ministers and churches in the Houston Association and attend all Association and South Central Conference meetings. So I am aware that the delegation from Immanuel is slim. By that I mean only your ordained ministers and their wives participate. I thank you, Rev. and Mrs. Krueger and Rev. and Mrs. Royster, for your constant support of both the Association and the Conference. But where are the lay people of Immanuel, those who so wonderfully support Immanuel in community work? My challenge to you is to become active in both the association (meetings and committee/board work) and the conference. The fall meeting of the Houston Association is Saturday, October 14 at Plymouth Church. Do have a large delegation at that meeting from Immanuel ready to participate and willing to serve in the work of the Association. Please contact me via my email (email@example.com) or by phone (713.805.1727) or contact your consistory president, Linda Michalicek, if you are interested in serving in any capacity. Be brave, Good Christians; serve your community in yet another way!
As always, I pray for you and for Immanuel Church.
Love and blessings,
